features from the well known Canon EOS 450D.
I have also done a review on the 450D so i`m looking forward to reviewing this
camera, first i will look at some features in a quick review format i then produce
more in depth review of the camera only focusing on one feature in my articles
then you can pick out what parts you want to read and leave the ones you don't
need.
The 500D is a camera that looks like it predecessor as in its body with a few cosmetic
modifications to fit in the new features, this starts with the mike indents on the body for
the sound recording on your HD video recording 720p or 1080p recording.
now Canon decided to add features that are from there high end models like the
EOS 50D.
So lets start with 15.1 Mega pixels what a big improvement on the 450D this
drops the frames per seconds ratio by .1 percent with a 3.4 frames per second, but
this has a lot of pixels to shift so no worries there.
Still the 3" LCD screen fixed to the camera at the back this LCD screen has
been updated with more detail it uses the tab format live view, has more detail and
when your changing your settings there is an option to change settings with a blue
high-lighter instead of using the tab format.
Added features to the camera are a HDMI port to play HD video straight
to your LCD HD TV to show your shots.
Now the kit has a standard lens fitted (18-55MM) and a standard flash fitted
to the top with a flip up action.
You can see the battery is the same as the 450D model, an LP-E5 rechargeable
battery.
The kit also has a 4GB micro SD card you need to get a good memory card
because data can be lost when transfer to and from the memory card.
The free software that canon produced to go with this camera gives you remote
control use from your PC.
We can now see that its got big improvements to the camera but does it beat its
competitors in its range its rivals are the Nikon D5000 and the Olympus E620.
These cameras have image stabilizer built in and both have full articulated flip
out LCD screen but the 500D doesn't, but that doesn't mean were going to give
up the goat for that option alone if this camera doesn't do it for you then this
information is irrelevant so we weigh up the pros and cons on this camera if it
sounds good then we buy one if it doesn't we don't and we look for something
else so lets look at the pros and then the cons for this 500D camera.
Pros
- 15.1 Mega pixel CMOS sensor
- 1080p HD video recording
- 3.4 frames per second
- Free PC software with remote control
- Integrated cleaning system
- Image stablelizer with kit lens
Cons
- Slow auto focus in live view mode
- Extra button required for auto focus in live view
- No plug in for external microphone
- Snap causes when zooming in HD recording
Now lets look at what features the 500D has inherited off the 50D its
high end model ISO levels up to 12800 3 inch screen with more details than
the 450D 5D movie mode is inherited to the 500D but the record option is
on the slide dial and you choose movie icon for HD 1080p recording.
Also inherited is the quick option menu on your LCD screen.
